About Lake Norman
In the early years of Lake Norman, many considered it a lovely site for summer cottages. However, through the years, Lake Norman has been discovered as a wonderful place to live and now is a home for thousands. Lake Norman has 520 miles of shoreline and 33,000 acres of surface area. It was created by Duke Power in 1963 as a source of energy for the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Lake Norman’s beautiful sunsets, lush landscape and tranquil waters are right where you need them – only twenty minutes north of Charlotte, and only a short drive to the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains or the warm ocean waters of the Atlantic.
Lake Norman NC has several official sites to help visitors and local citizens with necessary and convenient information.
